Welcome to the Siskiyou Artists Association (SAA) web site. We are a congenial group of Northern California artists who meet regularly to exchange ideas and learn more about visual arts. SAA supports local artists by providing critiques and demonstrations at scheduled meetings, workshops, and an annual show in late summer. Each year the association also awards scholarships to local graduating high school and college art students. SAA has been active in Siskiyou County for more than sixty years. See some of our history here.
April 2018 Artworks of the Month
"Catalina Afternoon" by Karen Copsey, "Miss Piggy, New Zealand” by Betsey Shuteroff, "From the Rooftop" by Dennis King
SAA's April meeting included the following:
The general meeting was followed by a critique by COS Art Instructor Sean Kenny. It was an excellent critique of nineteen artworks, and SAA thanks Sean for filling in at the last minutes.
Members are reminded that SAA's next general meeting will be held on the second Sunday of June, that is June 10, 2018, at the Lake Shastina Community Center. The meeting will include plans for SAA's 61st Annual Art Show and will feature a critique by Millie Whipplesmith Plank. Members who wish to bring an artwork for Millie's assessment should bring their work to the meeting by 1:30 p.m. The general meeting will begin at 2:00 p.m. followed by the critique.
The Siskiyou Artists Association is again pleased to offer scholarships to promising young artists in Siskiyou County. The scholarships are available to students enrolled at College of the Siskiyous and to graduating Siskiyou County high school seniors. If you know of an eligible individual who is planning to continue their art education, please encourage them to apply.
Scholarship applications are due no later than April 27, 2018.
The theme of the SAA show at Liberty Arts is "Hopes, Dreams, and Nightmares" - a theme we hope will inspire some challenges to our members. (For inspiration, see the work of professionals at WikiArt.Org, and type "dream" or "nightmare" into the search box.) Entries must not have been previously shown in Siskiyou County. The entry fee is $10 per artist. Members are encouraged to offer their work for sale and contribute a portion of the proceeds to Liberty Arts.
Our members range from beginning artists to skilled professionals. All you need to join is enthusiasm for visual arts and $20. Just complete the membership form and mail it with a check for annual dues ($20 for an individual or $30 per family) to Siskiyou Artists Association, P. O. Box 1654, Mount Shasta, CA 96067. You can join anytime, so we will see you at our next meeting.

SAA thanks Tom and Yvonne Waite, owners of Deetz Storage, for the very generous discount they have given SAA for storage of our show panels and other workshop and meeting supplies. Their support of our organization and local artists is greatly appreciated.
