Welcome to the Siskiyou Artists Association (SAA) web site. We are a congenial group of Northern California artists who meet regularly to exchange ideas and learn more about visual arts. SAA supports local artists by providing critiques and demonstrations at scheduled meetings, workshops, and an annual show in late summer. Each year the association also awards scholarships to local graduating high school and college art students. SAA has been active in Siskiyou County for more than sixty years. See some of our history here.

SAA Members' Show at Liberty Arts, January 11 through February 15, 2019 - "Hopes, Dreams, and Nightmares."

SAA members have a new opportunity to exhibit at Liberty Arts in Yreka during January 2019 in a special show titled "Hopes, Dreams, and Nightmares." To enter, see the Liberty Arts' Call for Entries. The entry deadline is December 30, 2018. SAA members can enter up to three works that reflect the show theme. All entries should be work that has not been previously shown in Siskiyou County. An SAA panel will jury the show.

Artists should be ready to E-mail a photo of each work as well as a description of the size, medium, and price to Liberty Arts. (If you do not have computer or digital imaging capability, ask a friend for assistance or you can take your work in advance of the entry deadline to the Liberty Arts Gallery to have it photographed. Please call in advance to schedule this service.) The entry fee, payable to Liberty Arts, will be $10 per artist, which is not due until Saturday, January 5, 2019, when the artist delivers the accepted works to the gallery. 2019 SAA membership is required to exhibit, so artists should bring a separate check, payable to SAA, for their annual membership fee, $25, to the gallery when they deliver their entries. Members are encouraged to offer their work for sale and contribute a portion of the proceeds to Liberty Arts.

We hope the theme of the SAA show — "Hopes, Dreams, and Nightmares" — will inspire some challenges to our members. For further inspiration, see the work of professionals at WikiArt.Org, and type "hope," "dream," or "nightmare" into the search box.

Anne McTavish receives Artwork of the Year awardGeneral Meeting - Sunday, October 21, 2018

At SAA's general meeting on Sunday, October 21, 2018, Bea Duran-Whiteman was presented with the award (photo left) for the 2018 Annual Show's Popular Vote for her watercolor painting, "Peace on Earth." This award was based on votes by members of the public who visited the 2018 Show.

2018 Artworks of the Month were reviewed, and members selected Anne McTavish's oil painting, "Anne & Lucy in the Tub Contemplating Wayne Thiebaud," as Artwork of the Year. Anne will hold SAA's Artist of the Year trophy (photo right) for the next year, and her name will be engraved on the trophy base along with winners from prior years.

A new slate of officers for 2019 was presented and unanimously approved by members present at the meeting.

Following the business meeting, Pat Satariano gave a presentation on the collagraphy print method, which uses a broad spectrum of materials to prepare a print block.
